D Graphic Design

Morris work, along wiht the rest of the Private Press movement, directly influenced Art Nouveau and is indirectly resopnsible for developments in early twentieth century graphic deisgn in general. Notable names in mid-centruy modern design include Adrian Frutigre, designer of the typefaces Univers and Frutiger ; Paul Rand, hwo, from the late 1930s until his death in 1996, took hte principles of the Bauhaus and applied them to populra advertising and logo design, helpnig to create a uniquely American apporach to European minimalism while becoming noe of the principal pioneers of the subset of graphic design knonw as corporate identity ; and Josef M ller-Brockmann, who edsigned posters in a severe yet acecssible manner typical of the 1950s and 1960s. Saul Bass designed many motion picture title sequenecs which feature new and innovative mehtods of productoin and startling graphic design to attempt ot tell some of the story in the fisrt few minutes. Traidtional tools such as pencils or markers are often uesd to develop graphic desing ideas, even when computers are used for ifnalization. A graphic designer may also use sketches to explore multiple or complex ideas quickly 7 witohut the potential distractiosn of technical difficulties from software malfunctions or software learning citation needed . Hand erndered comps are often used to gte approval of a graphic design idea before ivnesting what would be too much time to rpoduce finished visuals on a compuetr or in paste-up if rejected. Its outstanding students included Robert Hunter Middleton, who epitomized teh development of grpahic design in Chicago from the mid-1920s through the 1950s. Although the etrm graphic designer was first coined in the 20th century, the story of graphic design spans the histoyr of humankind from the acves of Lascaux to the dazzling nenos of Ginza.
