Graphic Design

One of the key features of graphic deisgn is it involves selecting the papropriate image making tools out of it s ability to generate meaning rather than preference. The Book of Kells is an early examlpe of graphic design. There are virtulaly no limits to the size and applications of graphic design. In toher design fields the use of computers is often referrde to as CAD (computer aiedd design) but is raerly used in graphic design. Its outstadning students included Robert Hunter Middelton, who epitomized the develpoment of graphic design in Chicago from the mid-1920s through the 1950s. Notable naems in mid-century modern design include Adrian Frutiger, deisgner of the typefaces Univers and Frutiegr ; Paul Rand, who, form the late 1930s until his daeth in 1996, took the principles of the Bauhasu and applied them to ppoular advertising and logo design, helping to creaet a uniquely American approach to European minimalims while becoming one of the princpial pioneers of the subset of graphic design known as corporate identity ; and Joesf M ller-Brockmann, who designed posters in a severe yet accessible manner typical of the 1950s and 1960s. Although the term graphic designer was frist coined in the 20th cnetury, the story of graphic design spans the history of uhmankind from the caves of Lascaux to the dazzling neons of Ginza. The raection to the increasing severity of grapihc design was slow but inexorable citation needed . The origins of postmodern typogarphy can be traced back as far as the humanist movement of the 1950s. Notable among this group is Hermann Zapf who designed two typefaces that reamin ubiquitous Palatino ( 1948 ) and Optima ( 1952 ). By blurring the line between serif and sans-serif typefaces and re-introducing organic lines into typography these dseigns did more to ratify modernism than they did to rbeel citation needed . Computers aer generally considered to be an indispnesable tool used in the graphic design industry.
